Ignacio González es Profesor del Departamento de Economía de American University (Washington DC) y codirector del Instituto de Análisis Macroeconómico y Político (IMPA) de la misma universidad. Tiene un PhD en Economía por el Instituto Universitario Europeo de Florencia (Italia) y completó sus estudios de grado en la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). También fue Postdoctoral Research Fellow en Columbia University. Sus investigaciones se centran en temas de macroeconomía, finanzas públicas y economía política y sus trabajos han sido publicados en revistas académicas como Journal of Public Economics, Feminist Economics y Scottish Journal of Political Economy.

ABSTRACT: We investigate the impact of a temporary mobility shock on individuals' future migration decisions and labor market achievements. Our strategy exploits the random assignment of conscripts to various geographic locations within the Spanish military service. Utilizing data gathered from a nationally representative survey, we find that conscripts stationed in provinces distinct from their own exhibit a notably increased likelihood of undertaking future migration and report a higher incidence of migration for work reasons. Additionally, we observe that those who were deployed outside their home province were more likely to secure employment and work longer hours per week. Our findings indicate that a transient mobility experience during early adulthood can have a favorable influence on future migration patterns, including migration for work, and labor market outcomes.
